Coventry City captain Jamie Allen’s first half strike helps his team secure the three points at the CBS Arena, climbing out of the relegation zone into 19th place in the Championship table against Blackburn Rovers.

A late red card by substitute Jake Garrett in the second half was enough to give the Sky Blues space to breathe and hang on to the 1-0 lead.

Blackburn Rovers, now dropping to 3rd in the league table after tonight’s defeat, let Coventry control possession and tempo of the ball in large parts of the game - giving Blackburn coach Jon Dal Tomasson’s side a tough evening.

Coventry City dominated the first half against the away side who have struggled to create many chances and deal with The Sky Blue’s intensity and high press.

Despite getting a goal near the end of the opening 45’ minutes, Coventry City will feel that they could have been 3-0 up with the amount of opportunities they failed to capitalise on through players such as Viktor Gyokeres and Callum O’Hare.

Blackburn Rovers struggled to put sequences of play together and find gaps in the Coventry City press but found a few half chances through Rovers forward, Ben Brereton Diaz on the left-hand side.

The second half, saw Coventry City drop the intensity slightly as fitness levels began to be tested but remained organised and competitive with substitutes Tyler Walker and Kasey Palmer providing help on the press and going forward.

Like in the first half, the visitors kept attempting to play the ball in behind right back, Josh Eccles, into Ben Diaz but the Coventry defender and the defence gave the Chilean national a difficult game by not allowing him to create any clear shots.

Coventry City now have to travel to Watford on 5th November at 15:00 for their next Championship tie while Blackburn Rovers host Huddersfield on the same date and time.
